Synopsis:

My thoughts about the book:
The book delivers a direct entrance in the story of Kaylee who has the morbid ability to feel the coming death of other people. She doesn’t know it with certainty though, but always when she sees somebody wrapped in shades, the menacing death is omnipresent and she must struggle with all her strength against an ear-deafening scream from her own throat. Up to now she was never sure if the people really died or if she was just crazy. Up to that evening in a disco when she gets this frightening feeling again and can just barely disappear, before the scream leaves her throat. The next day she finds out in the news that her foreboding has become true and the girl has really passed away; without evident reason. Kaylee is despaired and turns to her best friend Emma, and also to the attractive Nash, because of several different circumstances. Both of them stand aside Kaylee to solve her mystery.
From the story and the plot this book was really exciting and a real page-turner but parts of it didn’t work for me, nevertheless. In fact the writing style of the author is okay, but then she writes single words in her sentences over and over again, like Kaylee is thinking them. For example: ‘damned!’ or ‘Oh no!’ which is too sloppy for me and doesn’t fit to the rest of her writing.
Here, moreover, I have AGAIN the same problem, like with many other YA books, that especially the best friend is constantly lifted up and in the foreground, above all because of her extraordinary attractiveness. Emma is blond, brown-eyed, incredibly pretty, has a great body with the right curves and every guy at school would do everything to be together with her. In contrast Kaylee looks with her blue eyes, her slight build and brunette hair totally average and these facts are mentioned in the book every few pages.

If this wasn’t already enough, that it sounded very similar to other books, then there are also some other facts which seemed to me very copied. Namely one of the hottest guys of the whole school falls in love with Kaylee and although he is, actually, a womanizer, he means it serious with the average Kaylee… Okay? To whom this seems familiar and who can’t read it anymore – please, just raise your hand! Thanks – you can take your hand down again.
What I liked in this book was, that it was written thrilling and was an absolutely a fast read, although I could foresee some things in it and they particularly didn’t surprised me. But well, it is just a YA book and hence, I probably must throttle my expectations a little. Unfortunately, the anticipation for the book was once again higher than the actual reading pleasure and in the future I’ll have to pay less attention and better not to listen too much to other opinions and reviews.

A great cover which has immediately made me to buy it. Nice and interesting at the same time, and above all once also something different. I really like it very much.

All in all:
An interesting book with an exciting plot but which also possesses a few weaknesses.

Kaylee kann ihr Glück kaum fassen. Der schärfste Typ der Schule hat sie angesprochen! Nash hat die schönsten braunen Augen, die sie je gesehen hat. Als er sie auf die Tanzfläche zieht, glaubt Kaylee zu träumen. Aber das perfekte Date hat sie sich anders vorgestellt. Erst entdeckt sie ein Mädchen, das scheinbar von einem schwarzen Nebel umgeben ist. Dann wird Kaylee übel, und plötzlich lastet eine schreckliche Schwere auf ihr. Um nicht zu schreien, dass die Fensterscheiben zerspringen, rennt sie schweißgebadet raus. Wie peinlich! Nash muss sie jetzt für völlig verrückt halten. Doch seltsamerweise bleibt er ganz ruhig … Am nächsten Tag erfahren sie, dass das Mädchen tatsächlich tot ist. Bald sterben weitere. Meine Gedanken zum Buch:
Das Buch liefert einen direkten Einstieg in die Geschichte von Kaylee, welche die morbide Fähigkeit hat den Tod von anderen Menschen vorauszuahnen. Sie weiß es zwar nicht mit Sicherheit, aber immer, wenn sie jemanden  in Schatten gehüllt sieht, ist dieses Gefühl von dem drohenden Tod allgegenwärtig und sie muss sich mit aller Kraft gegen einen ohrenbetäubenden Schrei aus ihrer eigenen Kehle wehren. Bisher war es eine reine Vermutung und ein Gefühl von ihr, aber sie war sich nie sicher. Bis zu jenem Abend, als sie in einer Disco wieder dieses verängstigende Gefühl bekommt und gerade noch verschwinden kann, bevor der Schrei ihre Kehle verlässt. Am nächsten Tag erfährt sie über die Nachrichten, dass ihre Ahnung wahr geworden ist und das Mädchen, bei dem sie den kommenden Tod gespürt hat, wirklich noch in der Nacht verstorben ist; ohne ersichtlichen Grund. Kaylee ist verzweifelt und wendet sich an ihre beste Freundin Emma, sowie durch mehrere verschiedene Umstände an den attraktiven Nash, welche ihr beide zur Seite stehen, um Kaylees Mysterium zu lösen.

Von der Geschichte und der Handlung ist dieses Buch wirklich spannend und ein wirklich Page-Turner, aber Teile darin haben mich doch etwas zerknirschen lassen. Zu einem ist die Schreibweise der Autorin okay, aber dann schreibt sie immer wieder einzelne Wörter in ihre Sätze hinein, so wie es sich Kaylee denkt. Wie zb. ‚Verdammt!‘ oder ‚Ach nein!‘, was mir persönlich zu salopp ist und nicht zum Rest ihrer Schreibweise passt.

Außerdem habe ich hier WIEDER das gleiche Problem, wie mit vielen anderen Jugendbüchern, dass vor allem die beste Freundin ständig hervor gehoben wird und hierbei besonders ihre außerordentliche Attraktivität im Vordergrund steht. Emma ist blond, braunäugig, wahnsinnig hübsch, hat ein toller Körper mit den richtigen Rundungen und jeder Kerl in der Schule würde alles tun um mit ihr zusammen zu sein. Dagegen sieht Kaylee mit ihren blauen Augen, ihrer schmächtigen Figur und brünetten Haaren, wie der Durschnitt höchstpersönlich aus und diese Tatsachen werden auch alle paar Seiten im Buch erwähnt. Wäre das nicht schon genug, damit es mir von anderen Büchern bekannt vorkommt, gesellt sich noch ein weiterer Faktor dazu, der mir sehr abgekupfert erscheint. Und zwar verliebt sich einer der heißesten Typen der ganzen Schule in Kaylee und obwohl er eigentlich ein Frauenheld ist, meint er es genau mit der mittelmäßigen Kaylee ernst… Okay? Wem kommt das bekannt vor und wer kann das nicht mehr lesen – bitte einfach die Hand heben!

Was ich dem Buch zu Gute halten muss, ist, dass es spannend geschrieben und total schnell zu lesen ist, obwohl einige Dinge darin sehr vorhersehbar waren und mich nicht sonderlich überraschten. Aber gut, es ist nun mal ein Jugendbuch und meine Erwartungen muss ich daher wohl etwas drosseln. Leider war die Vorfreude auf das Buch wieder einmal höher, als das tatsächliche Lesevergnügen und ich werde in Zukunft besser darauf aufpassen, mir nicht zu viele Meinungen von anderen zu einem Buch im Vorhinein anzuhören.

Tolles Cover, das mich sofort dazu gebracht hat, es auch zu kaufen. Schön und interessant zugleich, und vor allem auch einmal etwas anderes. Gefällt mir wirklich sehr gut.

All in all:
Ein an sich interessantes Buch mit spannender Handlung, welches aber ein paar Schwächen aufweist.
