Meine Gedanken zum Buch:
Nachdem ich von Armstrongs Reihe ‚Dunkle Mächte‘ wahnsinnig begeistert war, wollte ich unbedingt ihre neue YA Serie versuchen und ich muss sagen, dass sie mich auch hier wieder vollkommen überzeugen könnte.

Nicht nur Armstrongs Schreibstil ist wieder klasse und flüssig zu lesen, sondern auch die Charaktere waren gut beschrieben und endlich einmal wieder ein weiblicher Hauptcharakter, den ich mochte und der nicht genervt oder gejammert hat, sondern rational gedacht und gehandelt hat und nachvollziehbar und authentisch war. Auch waren die anderen Figuren schön ausgearbeitet, sodass man sie bald lieb gewonnen hat und die männlichen Mitstreiter sind nicht nur äußerlich, sondern auch von ihrem Wesen und Charakter sehr ansprechend.

Die Handlung ist teilweise an manchen vereinzelten Stellen etwas langatmiger oder auch vorhersehbar, aber nicht so sehr, dass es mich nun sonderlich gestört hätte.
Der einzig weitere Kritikpunkt der mir hier einfällt ist, dass das Buch zu kurz ist und es mehr wie eine Vorgeschichte wirkt, um die Szenerie und die Figuren vorzustellen, aber es wird noch nicht sehr auf die generelle Geschichte dahinter eingegangen. Aber mich stört das jetzt nicht sehr, da ich erstens bald den nächsten Band lesen werde und zweitens ich diese Vorgehensweise von Armstrong schon aus ihrer ersten YA Serie ‘Dunkle Mächte’ kenne und dort war es genauso. Und daher bin ich sehr davon überzeugt, dass Band zwei und drei nur so vor Spannung und Ereignissen sprudeln werden, dass man nicht mehr weiß wie schnell man noch lesen soll, um alles gleich zu erfahren – und so etwas liebe ich!

Cover:
Leider habe ich das Taschenbuch zuhause – aus finanziellen Gründen – aber ich finde das Hardcover um einiges ansprechender mit dem abgebildeten Gesicht darauf und der dunklen Farbgebung. Wirklich schön.

All in all:
Ein interessanter Auftakt einer neuen Reihe, von der ich überzeugt bin, dass sie am Ende zu meinen Lieblingsreihen gehören wird.

My thoughts about the book:
Finally again a book that after my high expectations has fulfilled and even excelled them and all I can say is, that I love this book! After many positive reviews and because I found the cover pretty amazing, I was really looking forward to read this book and honestly, I feared that I’ll be disappointed like so often, when I’ve high expectations. But exactly the opposite has happened and now I can join the whole masses before me who loved it, because the book is really wonderful and the best discovery for a long time.

I don’t want to tell much about the plot and describe here everything because I would like to give every reader the chance to discover it for yourself, to solve the riddles and to see the miracles with your own eyes. I only want to say so much that it is about Angels, which aren’t shown as usual as bighearted and kind, but who can be also deadly and unmerciful.
In the book you find yourself in a world full of wishes, filled with me chimeras which couldn’t be more differently and the plot is scattered all around the world, now it’s Prague, then Marrakech or Paris. Everything is a big scene, full of tension and emotions in whose middle the central figure Karou stands; a 17-year-old student with bright blue hairs and many unbelievable secrets, and also riddles which she must work out by herself throughout the story, together with the reader.

The book is stuffed with original ideas, new notions and thus begins already with the first pages and starts with the unique names of the protagonists, like Karou, Twiga, Assil, Kishmish or Akiva. It is also a different atmosphere in this book, stamped by the scenery in Prague, as well as by the unique characters and their own world, like for example in the magic store of Brimstone.
Moreover, Laini Taylor has a wonderful writing style which underlines this fantastic story as well, and you also notice that Taylor has a lot of know-how and has well investigated. This book has brought an absolutely new and fresh wind into the fantasy genre, like a strong gust which carries the ‘boat of the imagination’ even further out in the never-ending ocean. *wonderful*

Furthermore what I’ve liked very much was that though it’s a YA book, that it also fits well for older readers and therefore it’s written more attractively to adults.

The only deficiency which I have to criticize is that at the beginning it was difficult to get into the story because of the writing style and therefore it was also a little slow going, but which changed soon. At the start was just a big question mark but which has changed after some pages.
And also the fact that though I liked Karou as a character and she was totally a great and very strong main figure, she sometimes appeared too great and too good – she was missing a little negative side and therefore she seemed too perfect.
Moreover in the later middle section was a little too much about the past and the whole Madrigal-story, which was described too precisely and it could have been shorter in my opinion.

But otherwise, I was inspired by this book all the time and I could empathize fantastically and felt with these wonderful characters throughout the plot and now I’m really looking forward to the second part in this incredible series, which hopefully will be released soon.

It’s breathtaking and the nicest cover which I have in my collection so far. Special is, that under the envelope is also a printed picture on the hardcover. *awesome*

All in all:
For me an obvious Must-Read! At which I have to say that it’s rather for fantasy fans. For Jodi Picoult-readers or for fans of non-fictional books, this book will be maybe too extraordinary.

Es war einmal, da verliebten sich ein Engel und ein Teufel ineinander. Es ging nicht gut aus.
Karou ist etwas Besonderes. Sie hat blaue Haare so glänzend wie Seide und filigrane Tattoos. Meine Gedanken zum Buch:
Endlich wieder ein Buch, dass nach meinen hohen Erwartungen, diese erfüllt und auch noch übertroffen hat und bei dem ich sagen kann, ich LIEBE es! Nach vielen positiven Rezensionen und weil ich das Cover einfach unbeschreiblich schön fand, habe ich mich schon sehr auf das Buch gefreut und hatte ehrlich Angst, dass ich deshalb wieder enttäuscht werde. Aber genau das Gegenteil ist passiert und ich kann mich den ganzen Massen vor mir nur anschließen, weil das Buch wirklich großartig ist und die beste Entdeckung seit langem.

Ich möchte nicht viel auf die Handlung eingehen und hier beschreiben, weil ich den Lesern die Chance geben möchte es für sich selber zu entdecken, die Rätsel zu lösen und die Wunder mit eigenen Augen zu sehen. Nur soviel, dass ich sagen kann, dass es um Engel geht, die nicht, wie üblich dargestellt, großherzig und sanftmütig sind, sondern auch den Tod bringen können.
Im Buch findet man sich in einer Welt voller Wünsche wieder, gefüllt mir Chimären, die unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten und die Handlung ist auf unserem ganzen Planeten verstreut; sei es nun Prag, Marrakesch oder Paris. Alles ist ein großer Schauplatz, voller Spannung und Emotionen, in dessen Mitte die zentrale Figur Karou steht; eine 17-jährige Studentin mit leichtenden, blauen Haaren und vielen unglaublichen Geheimnissen, und auch Rätseln, welche sie aber erst selber im Laufe der Handlung, gemeinsam mit dem Leser, entschlüsseln muss.

Das Buch ist vollgestopft mit originellen Ideen, neuen Vorstellungen und beginnt schon so mit den ersten Seiten, wenn man die Namen der Protagonisten liest, wie Karou, Twiga, Issa, Kishmish oder Akiva. Auch herrscht hier eine andersartige Stimmung, geprägt durch die Szenerie in Prag, sowie durch die einzigartigen Charaktere und deren eigenen Welt, wie zb. im Zauberladen von Brimstone.
Laini Taylor hat außerdem eine wundervolle Schreibweise, welche diese fantastische Geschichte noch zusätzlich unterstreicht, mit ihr spielt und man merkt, dass Taylor viel Know-how hat und gut recherchierte. Dieses Buch hat einen total neuen, frischen Wind in den Fantasiereich gebracht, wie eine starke Böe, welche das ‘Boot der Vorstellungskraft’ noch weiter in den unendlichen Ozean hinaus trägt. *wundervoll*

Was ich außerdem toll gefunden habe, war, dass es zwar ein Jugendbuch ist, aber eines für bereits ältere Jugendliche und somit auch besser für Erwachsene passt und ansprechender geschrieben ist.

Das einzige Manko, das ich zu bekritteln habe, ist, dass es durch die Schreibweise am Anfang etwas schwer war in die Geschichte rein zu kommen und es etwas langatmig war, bevor sich etwas getan hat. Zu Beginn stand einfach nur ein großes Fragzeichen, was sich aber bald geändert hat. Und auch die Tatsache, dass ich Karou zwar als Charakter total gerne mag und sie wirklich ein sehr starker Hauptcharakter ist, kommt sie manchmal zu toll oder zu gut rüber – ihr fehlt ein wenig eine negative Seite, sie erscheint fast zu perfekt.
Außerdem war im späteren Mittelteil etwas zu viel von der vergangen Geschichte und die ganze Madrigal- Story war zu genau beschrieben. Diese hätte meiner Meinung nach auch kürzer gereicht, um sich auszukennen.

Aber ansonsten war ich die ganze Zeit über von diesem Buch begeistert, man konnte sich toll einfühlen und mit den wundervollen Charakteren mitleiden, mitlieben und ich freue mich schon jetzt wahnsinnig auf den zweiten Teil, der hoffentlich nicht all zu lange auf sich warten lässt.

Atemberaubend und das schönste Cover, das ich bisher in meiner Sammlung habe. Besonders ist, dass auch unter dem Umschlag auf dem Hardcover ein Bild gedruckt ist. *herrlich*

All in all:
Für mich ein eindeutiges Lese-Muss!! Wobei ich dabei doch eher die Fantasiefreunde unter euch ansprechen möchte. Jodi Picoult- Leser oder Fans von Non-Fictional Büchern wird dieses hier vielleicht zu fantastisch sein.
